Thu Voznesenka kolkhoz village was located on the Ishim River approximately vO kilometers west of Makinsk. The village was esp 1ed to service the twelve kolkhozea located in the vicinity. Radon., Akmolinsk Oblast, Kazakhstan Republic, USSR Voznpsenka Sz+czucze- 3orewoye Sanatorium The inhabitants of the Rayon center were mainly Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, and Latvians who had been forcibly temoved to that area after the Russian revolution. The few Kirghiz lived at only two of the kolkhoaes. 4. Most of the houses were built of clay mixed with straw. The area contained very little wood for heating purposes and the inhabitants were forced to use dried cattle manure. What little wood was in the area or brought in, was used by the rayon authorities. This further angered the populus. 6. with the regime and the local authorities. Each kolkhoz had tractors, seeders, combines, and other agricultural equipment. The number of farm. machinery depended upon the amount of inhabitants in each kolkiioz. Despite the very :fertile soil in the area, the majority of the people were near starvation. At the time they were all very dissatisfied.
