The Coal Mine Antonin, National Corporation, is a part of the corporation Brown Coal Mines and Brickett Works (HDBS Rnedouhelne Doly a Briketarny Sokolov) in Sokolov (Falknov n Ohri). It is a surface mine and uses large excavators. The mine works in three shifts and produces 1,600 tons per shift. The major part of the coal is transported Cy a rubber conveyor to a power plant located near the mine. This power plant supplies the mine and the city of Sokolov (Falknav n Ohri) with electricity. The remainder of the coal is forwarded by rail to various industrial plants in Czecho- slovakia. The director of the mine is a former worker, Mr. Vaclav Encl, and the technical manager is a Soviet, Michel Andrejkiv. 2. The technical equipment of the mine and the sorting plant can not be con- sidered modern. Nine excavators are used, three being driven by electric- ity and six by steam. The only modern electric excavator was made by the Skoda Works in Pilsen. The mine is connected by rail with the railway station, Citice. The mine has its own narrow-gauge railway with cars pulled by chains. 3. There are about 450 employees, of whom 40 are administrative employees, 100 are miners and the rest are unskilled workers. In addition, there are 20 apprentices who are accommodated in a boarding house at the mine. The lowest wage of an unskilled worker is three thousand crowns per month. The average wage is four thousand crowns per month. The highest wage of a specialist working with the excavator is seven thousand crowns per month. The director receives 10 thousand crowns per month. The morale of the employees is very bad due to the fast tempo of the work and the relatively low compensation. On the average, the norms of individual labor output are fulfilled by 90%. About 80% of the employees are unfriendly to the regime. Communist propaganda, which consists mainly of leaflets, posters and general praise for the stakhanovites, does not seem to be very successful. Once a month, a plenary meeting of all employees takes place but this is attended by only a small number. Everyone, regardless of Party affiliation, tries to find an excuse to avoid such meetings. 1__RR EV L CLASSIFICATION SECRET/SECURITY 1RFORMATION DISTRIBUTION Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2014/11/04 : CIA-RDP82-00047Ronn9nn7annnc_7 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2014/11/04: CIA-RDP82-00047R000200790005-7 SECRET/SECURITI INFORMATION -2- 5.
