11 with Targul Mures (4633'N, 2433'E) a centuries old toirn
which had a population of about 50 thousand in 1944. From 1940 to 2944, dwing
the occupation by the Hungarian army, this town was called. Marosvasarta.4. About
two kilometers southwest of the town is a small village. The Hungarian name for
it was Medgyesfalva. I do not know the Rumanian name for this village. Tazgul
Mures is situated in a valley. On the southern side of the tarn there is a fairly
steep hill or small mountain. On the east side of the Mures River the valley ex-
tends about one and one-half kilometers and ends at another small mouniti. The
general topography of the town is rolling.
2. Almost all 'the streets are paved with asphalt and are two lanes wide. Hog/ever,
on steep inclines bricks set on the small edge are used. This provides mzre
secure footing for horses during slippery weather. Almost all streets hay* as-
phalt Sidewalks on each aide. Sewers are atequate and carry off everyirling but
a cloudburst. Sewer maintenance is facilitated with a number of manholea located
thro lout the entire street system.
II
Residences are chiefly of brick constructio with hip roofs covered. wits :-'Si
slate. Most resitences located in the central part of town have three or four
aOriee, while the majority of the other homes are two-story. The heaviest con-
centration of residences is in the southern part of the town. Most homes are
heated with natural gas, most have running water and electricity. Most persons
own their homes and do not rent them.
4. Populatton is chiefly Hungarian. Rumanians constitute the largest minority
group although there is a email German minority group. .People eat th principal
meal at noon. Motion pictures and concerts are preferred forms of assmt and
soccer football is the favorite sport.
I have prepared free hand sketch, not drawn to scale fiktmlosure g shaviag the
location of the princ al buildings. Numbers on the sketch are identified with
the correspo lug n IS ere listed 'belay.
