In accordance with our conversation, I am writing to give you more infor-
mation about the forum of federally supported information analysis centers
about which we spoke. The forum is under the sponsorship of the Committee
on Scientific and Technical Information (COSATI) of the Federal Council
for Science and Technology, with arrangements being made by the COSATI
Panel on Information Analysis Centers.
The theme is to be "The Flow of Information--Opportunities and Responsibil-
ities of Information Analysis Centers." The purposes are to allow informa-
tion analysis center representatives to exchange ideas with each other and
with government program officials, with the hope of obtaining at least a
few solutions to key problems. The meeting will also serve to inform in-
formation analysis center managers of COSATI activity and of government
interest in their centers. Some of the major policy problems affecting
information center activities, such as copyright provisions and security
restrictions, will be featured in talks by experts on these matters.
The meeting will open with a brief description of the objectives of the
forum and the activities of the COSATI Panel on Information Analysis Cen-
ters, presented by myself. This will be followed by a keynote speech.
Following the keynote speech, the forum will break up into a series of
workshops which will examine specific problems in several areas and, hope-
fully, suggest solutions to some of them for consideration by COSATI and
its member agencies. The second morning of the meeting features a presen-
tation by the Chairman of COSATI on the future of information programs,
followed by discussions on security and copyright problems. The after-
noon session will consist of reports of the working group chairmen.
I am sending herewith copies of the proposed program.
Sincerely yours,
Edward L. Brady, Chief
