1. I an returning herewith your proposed letter to Col. `be`g
asking that a T-33 be assigned to the 'Washington headquarters of
this profit, for use by the Operations personnel. I an taking no
action with request for the following reasons.
Col. aerg and discussed this and Col.srg stated
that T-33 aircr are Cr tical and that H USAF could not go alone
with this coneept. Furthermore, I canwt in may own mind, justify
the need for a T-bird here to fulfill the requirements pieced in
para. 2 of your proposed letter. I also know fros trying to
take similar action at r7 previous aasicxwent to obtain an aircraft
for similar use that we were unable to receive approval from
Headquarters.
2. As an alternative, I suggest that you investigate with
Andrews and Roiling the possibility of having a priority estab-
lished which would enable you to get the use of a 7-33 in the
event that you did have to go to the scene of an accident on short
notice or if a T-33 was required on short notice to take a trip
to the West Coast.
3. I have not taken this up with Mr. Bissell for I believe
that such action is unnecessary at this time. In the future we
may look at this request again to see if we nave better justifi-
cation than we now have for setting a T-33 assigned to us in the
,ashington area.
