There is a'Hungarian rifle battalion in the infantry barracks, and a horse artillery
group of three batteries in the artillery barracks.

Outwardly, the city looks normal. In spite of the strong Soviet garrison, only
a.few Soviet soldiers are seen on the streets. Only officers are often seen in
the Korona and Kosponti coffee houses holding drunken orgies. However, there are a
great many Hungarian soldiers and police inGyor.
3. Propaganda in favor of economy is strong. Posters recommend economizing on coal,
fuel and paints, and people who write mat1;.ioiaus remarks on these posters are not
lacking. The shortage of materials is already being felt. In the past year almost
anything could be had and the shops were full of sample articles, but this year
things are very different. The show windows are still full of articles on exhibition
but there is a yawning void in the shops.
4. The Soviet Consulate is at Kisfaludy u.4. Its head is Sebremow. He lives on the
Ady Endre u.tca, a street on which other Soviet officers also live; The N.W.D.
Command is at Kossuth Lajos utoa 11. It does not seem to be heavily manned, having
only 18 to 20 people at the most.

markings. Russian tanks are located on the sport field near Erzsebet ter and 33
T-34 tanks are reported to be in Gyor. The 5th Battalion of the Border Guard 25X1A
with its staff and headquarters company is quartered at the Teleki barracks.

The Gyor'Airfield is now ready, but no planes are stationed there permanently.

Partisan Alliance) is extremely busy training with motor gliders (second stage).
The number of student pilots is around a hundred, and they have teb to twelve machines
available. The head of the training operation is Zoltan; a former instructor in
the M.8 R Ey and a let Lieutenant pilot.
7. The Gyor district Recruit Command is at Apacza utca 15. The Commander is Captain
Vilmos Bilnitzer. The Hungarian Police District Captaincy (Keruleti Rendorkapitany-
sag) is at Batthanyi ter 25, where the duty command is also stationed (180 to 200
men). The strength of the police in Gyor is at least S00 men, apart'f*om the
detectives. The BAH authority (Megyei allamvedelmi hatosag) is in the barracks at
Apacza utca. The commander is Major Imre Gluck. It has one company of 120 men
on ready duty, The AVH city authority is at Gardonyi utoa 7 and has a duty compon-
ent of about 30 men.
8. The Richards Richard Textile Works allocates only 25 per cent of its production for
local needs, the rest going to the USSR. This export is compensated with cotton,
against which clothing and parachute silk is delivered. The Gyori Textilmuvek, in
the building of the old Gun Factory, makes woolen goods for army needs. The Yfi}ggon
Factory (Vaggongyar) is working more and more on tanks. It has also set up several
assembly lines. Since the spring of 1950, cannon tubes for the T-34 and also the
88?s have been made here. The raw blocks are brought from Diosgyor. Airplane
motors are also built here.
9. Gyo*azabad p-
The barracks are full of Soviet soldiers. Twenty-one T-34 tanks and nine 76.2
25X1A anti-tank gun The tanks have numbers in the 200 series on their
turrets.
10. Papa
The former parachute barracks is occupied by Soviet pilots and parachute troops
(blue shoulder boards with a propellor marking.) The command is at the Eszterhazy
castle. At the Papa Airfield, a concrete runway has been built in the form of a
cross. New barracks are located some two kilometers from Papa, north of the
25X1A highway-to Veszprem. The barracks are occupied by Hungarian artillery and tank
troops. Some tanks at the barracks headquarters, though these could
have been accompany t 500 meters from there barracks, new ones are
being built and are almost complete.
