1. The Tiong Hwee Kwan School, Djalan Plampitan 35, Semarang, is one of th
leading Communist schools in Central Java. Its -rincip .l, CHENG Seng Hui'
(TS'ENG Hsing-hui 2582/2502/6540) and the majority of the teaching staff
are well-trained Communists. 0n of the most active teachers is a Miss
PAI Ti Fen (4i-loi/6611/5358), who came to Semarang in. 1952 from China) where
she had been employed in the Peiping Educational Department.-
2. At monthly teachers' meetings, CHENG gives instructions in Communist theory
and indoctrination methods to be used by the teachers. Military discipline
is enforced in the c?ls,ssrooms, with the use of symbolic hand salutes and
code words,in oral drill exercises alluding to the revolutionary spirit of
New China and the Communist youth of Southeast Asia. CHENG has admonished
the teachers and students not to discuss the military aspect of their school-

Chinese Communist activities in Purwokerto center in the Hsin Hua She
(2450/5478/4357), a Chinese association of about 120 members whose chair-
man Is YU T'a.-ch'un (3266/3141/2504). The organization is in close
contact with the Sin Yiu Shih (Hsin Yu She - 2450/0645/4357) (New Friends
Society), the leading Communist organization in Semarang, through OEI Bian
Seng (HUANG Mien-ch'eng - 7806/4875/2052), who is a member of the New
Friends Society residing in Purwokerto.2 OEI recently opened a book store
in.Purwokerto, the Ta Chung Shu Tien.

4. The immediate aim of the Hsin Hua She is to take over control of the Chinese
middle school in Purwokerto, the Chung Hua Hsueh Hsiao. With the assistance
of OEI and the New Friends Society, it has already places';two Communist
teachers in the school, TS'ENG Hsi-wen (2582/5045/2429) of Semarang, and
CHUANG Ping Hsiang (CHUANG Hun-hsiang - 5445/5526/4382) of Cheribon.
5. The New Friends Society has provided Communist propaganda books for use
with the students in. the middle school, and a continuing supply of funds to
finance the activities of the Hsin Hua She in Purwokerto.
Qwas reported that in October 1951 a PAI Ti-fen, (also received PEE You
Fen an adviser of the Communist Kun Hua Shieh Seng Lien Hoo Hui (Chi-..
nese Students Uhian);in Pontianak. This is probably the %mmme person
although the dates?canflict.
