The following information on Rumanian foreign trade and foreign
trade enterprises was taken from a bulletin of the Rumanian Ministry
of Foreign Trade distributed at the Leipzig Fair,?
Rumanian foreign trade was made a state monopoly to raise the standard of
living within the RPR (Rumanian People's Republic) and to defend the country's
independence. Trade with other countries is closely connected with increased
domestic production. Trade relations with the USSR and the People's Democracies
are based on mutual interest and equality- This trade is essential for the ful-
fillment and overfulfillment of the state economic plan, The Rumanian Ministry
of Foreign Trade and the specialized export and import enterprises develop bar-
ter exchange of goods with the USSR and the People's Democracies for mutual
advantage.
As a result of increased production and labor productivity, increasingly
more goods art, available for export to foreign countries. This includes in-
dustrial goods, grain, petroleum products, firewood. and various new products.
The petroleum industry, for example, is in a position to deliver industrial
petroleum derivatives and pharmaceuticals. The chemical industry can export
incum erable new chemical and pharmaceutical products.. Ready-made goods for
export include leather, textiles, htdee, and metal products. The wood industry
can export furniture. plywood;. barrel-: wood for mus_cal instruments, prefab-
ricated houses, sports gonus; and other items. AnonG food prrducts availr.ole
are vegetables, fruit, treat, wire. biscuits; fruit jc.uces, stewed fruits, sad
other items. .Tndu`tria.l displays at the. Lripzi6 Fair for export include radios,
railroad cars, locomotives, and other items.
