2. 'I:;targard is sl,uated on the Ina River (German: Ihna). Because it was one of the
moat badly damaged ?-t- of .r tcrn rolana, it uow em; the )status of a district town,
v.'ith a population or around 12 to 15,000. (Before World War. II, the population vas
around 40,000.) The old part of town received particularly heavy druaage during the
war.
3. "There are no visible traces in present-day S~argard of its former rolo. It is
connected to the Baltic Sea by the Ina and Odra Rivers and used to offer competition
to Szczecin as a harbor. Although only a small river, the Ina used to be able to
accomodate large ships. Only the old mill-gate (mL nsk briunrs) and the salt ware-
houses are still there as remira,rs of Stargard's former importance.

The Six Year Plea foresees the egostruetion of a large condensed milk factory. From
the information -receives, this construction has not yet been started.
6. "Near Stargard, In Kluczevo (German: Kluetzuv), ;me of P rania's largest sugar
plants is in operation. Very near the sugar plant are an electrically-run flour milli
and a large brick factory used in the large town reconstruction program in Cenvral
Poland.
Military Role
"Although not very far free the large exercise-ground areas, Starga_1 itself is of
only limited importance an a military garrison. A detachment of th,. 43rd Infantry
Regiment is stationed in the reconstructed military barracks. points out
