progress. several track-riding cranes of about five-ton capacity under con-
struction on o ieh Quay, and a floating crane of about 75--ton capar-ity is presently
located in the southwest portion of Wojenny Basin #2. a floating drydock of
about 500-ton capacity in the northwest portion of Nojenny Basin #2 and a five-ton
track-riding crane on French quay
opinion that. it was proceeding there for repairs, since appearances indicate
that shi constriction and repair facilities are located in that area.
in Gdynia and one Polish ship loading steel products a o sh
uay. esrd that small Polish merchant ships bring to Gdynia cargoes of steel
products which are nubeequuntly loaded on large Polish merchant vessels for ulti-
mate delivery to Communist China and India.
..construction to progress in the vicinity of the Naval Base north of the
outer harbor, mnd excav'rion work on the hills in the neighborhood of the hospital
at Oksywie. there are shore batteries in the vicinity of Oksywie
and on the hill located ,just. north of Ksmenna Gorr, and although I do not know
their number and calif,=r, I believe t.).ey may be of dual purpose construction.

The characteristics of these ships were as follows:
(a) One ship .had a heavy cage mast, large single stack, double
break in the deck aft of the forecastle, rounded stern, two
gun housings, one forward and one aft.
(b) Two appeared to be DR-type with very small superstructure,
and two enclosed gun mounts, one forward and one aft.
(c) Three were small ships with trawler hulls, large superstructure
. and no armament. any flags or ensigns.

northwesterly heading close to the coast and well inside the Hedrick line.

side the old Medrick'line while steaming off Polish coasts.
5, the city of Gdynia there was a general feeling
of happiness at Stalin's death, and some of t e population expressed the
opinion that though the situation would not necessarily improve at least a
change could be expected. Local authorities were extremely strict with re-
gard to carrying foreign or. local currency ashore. Qdynia after
dark an extremely dangerous area for foreign seamen, since ings and'as-
