Approved F r elease 2003/05/14: CIA-RDP79-0157. 000200110022-3 C N F I D E N T I A L 26 April 1976 SUBJECT Summary of Planned Replacement of The Office of Communications' IBM System/3 Model 10 1. The planned replacement of the Office of Communications' IBM System/3 is to replace the Model 10 96-column card record system with a Model 4 disk storage record system. The Model 4 will also have increased memory (64K vice 8K bytes) for greater processor controlled record field manipulation capa- bility, multi-task capability, CRT's for system control and file inquiry,, update and demands, plus two printers for outputs. Although the combined print capability in lines per minute is slightly lower than the current 200LPM, greater flexibility will exist with separate printers requiring less paper changing for different form requirements, and simultaneous running of two different print jobs. The attached chart entitled "System/3 Replacement Equipment Configuration" is a pictorial representation. 2. This system serves OC in meeting cryptographic accounting and cryptographic warehousing requirements. The current data base involves 200,000 items.. This total is divided into 80,000 items issued to nearly Oworld- wide holder accounts, and 120,000 remaining within the warehousing responsibility. Resupply to the field accounts requires 5,000 transactions annually. Stock resupply, and items issued, amounts to 70,000-90,000 items per year received in about 800 batches. Distinct short titles of material controlled on a birth to death basis numbers 1,326. 3. Advantages of the new system include: A. Relieve the staffing from the card system highly repetitive tasks sufficiently to make it possible to redirect the effort of one person to other requirements where additional staffing is needed. 25X1 Approved For 000200110022-3 Approved For Release 2003/05/14: CIA-RDP79-01578A000200110022-3 (*soeN F I D E N T I Ash SUBJECT: Summary of Planned' Replacement of The Office of Communications' IBM System/'3 Model 10 B.
