Approved For Ruse 2003/02/27: CIA-RDP75B00285ROW100220022-3 SECRET OSA 3383-65 23 August 1965 VDD MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, Intelligence Division, OS RP SUBJECT Survival Radio KB REFERENCE OSA 1172-65 1. The Office of Communications has informed us that the ASR-100 survival radio is not in production as of this date, due to unsatisfactory results of the production prototype evaluation. They also stated that it would require 45 to 60 days to manufacture the first 50 units after production authorization was given. 2. The Department of Defense was queried to deter- mine if a suitable replacement for the URC-4 were available. The general information received, indicated that the ASR-100 was the only replacement for the URC-4 that is presently under development. 3. Other survival radios presently in use or in development are: NOMENCLATURE BAND REMARKS URC-11 UHF Not in production URC-10 UHF Air Force has priority on this unit for the Far East ANRRC-49 H.F. The solution for the deployment appears to be the use of the URC-4. It is felt that this unit will be satisfactory if it is aligned on a selected frequency and then sealed. The units should be tested prior to deployment and again prior to mission. A sufficient number of prechecked units and power supplies can be made available to insure operational units are available 25X1A CITIPT, Communications & Fie Electronics Division OSA-DD/S&T SECRET Approved For Release 2003/02/27 : CIA-RDP75B00285R000100220022-3
