The decision on going to single-type engine concept (J-75) hinges on the outcome of the GUSTO decision on 15 June; i.ey "no go" on GUSTO would mean better prospects of converting exclusively to J-75, while GUSTO "O.K." would make the additional cost hard for USAF' to bear. The probable minimusa would be faqir or five conversions. Mr. Bissell asked o make a study of how serious the problem of supporting two types of engines simu tare tly would be. 3. STATUS OFSTAGING - 25% of the targets have been covered. Navy targets in Indochina are considered out for this season due to deteriorating weather. Burke make a run-down of low fuel curves in connection with the question of J-75 engine modifications. Consideration should be givenin sending an LAC test pilot to B for demonstration of altitude capabilitiea. Pratt and Whitney should be advised when such teat is scheduled since they may wish on-the-spot representation. ACTION: Col. Burke 8. COMMAND LINE PAPERS,- Mr. Bissell requested that the new organizational concept be implemented soon after the FE Surve :Ls 25X1A completed. FE is still not in complete ant W. The Ops scrambler phone is noy operational and should be used for highly classified conversations. W. Bissell met with Gen. Schriever regarding assignment on 14 May. No decision was reached but Mr. Bissell indicated he would further discuss the question with Gen. Ritland. The outlook for retention of is not too good. Mr. Bissell also discussed GUSTO with Gen. Schriever, Gen. Smart, Gen. Wilson and Mr. Horner.
