SUBJECT:. EVALUATION OF GLASS LAMP MISSION G-055.
1. IMAGE QUALITY: THE OVERALL IMAGE QUALITY OF THIS MISSI
POOR.. AREAS OF GOOD-IMAGERY ARE PRESENT IN THE MISSION, HO
OF THE IMAGERY APPEARS OUT OF FOCUS (SEE IMAGED DEGRADATION
THE INTERPRETATION SUITABILITY OF THIS MISSION IS POOR. CL
AND HAZE OBSCURE APPROXIMATELY 30 PERCENT OF THE MISSION.
2: MISSION. DATA:
A.. MISSION G-055 WAS. FLOWN ON 5 DECEMBER 1968. DELTA III
CAMERA WITH UNITS 17 (AFT-LOOKING) AND IS (FWD LOOKING) WAS
UTILIZED.
B. FILM TYPE 3404 WAS USED THROUGHOUT THE MISSION WITH A
WRATTEN 21 FILTER. PROCESSING WAS AKKOMPLISHED BY NAV RECO
SUPPCEN. THE MATERIAL WAS PROCESSED TO AN AVERAGE GAMMA OF
ON THE AFT AND 2.92 ON THE FWD.
3. ORIGINAL NEGATIVES:
A. EXPOSURE: ADEQUATE THROUGHOUT FOR BOTH UNITS.
B. DENSITY AND CONTRAST: GENERALLY MEDIUM FOR BOTH UNITS
DURING THE ENTIRE MISSION.
C. -IMAGE DEGRADATIONS:
(1) FWD CAMERA.'(IS):- 'A PLUS DENSITY STREAK IS
PRESENT INTERMITTENTLY ALONG THE FORMAT EDGE ON THE NON-
TITLED.SIDE OF THE FRAME THROUGHOUT THE MISSION. AN OUT-
OF-FOCUS CONDITION DEGRADES THE IMAGERY OF EACH FRAME UP
TO 1.0 INCH (IN WIDTH) FROM THE TITLED EDGE-A-ND 1.8'
INCHES FROM THE'NON-TITLED EDGE. THE OUT-OF-FOCUS AREAS
VARY IN SIZE FROM FRAME TO FRAME AND ARE ALWAYS MORE SEVER
AT THE START OF SCAN. BANDING IS PRESENT AT THE BEGINNING
OF SCAN FOR EACH FRAME.
(2) AFT CAMERA (17): THE FOG PATTERN WHICH HAS BEEN
AFFECTING TWO-THIRDS OF THE FILM WEB FOR PORTIONS OF THE
LAST THREE.MISSIONS (DELTA III TESTS .1 AND 2; GLASS LAMP.
G-052) IS PRESENT IN FRAMES 16 THRU 50 AND 162 THRU 227.
FRAMES 2'(THE FIRST TITLED FRAME)-THRU 8 CONTAIN FOG
ASSOCIATED WITH A LIGHT LEAK. THE LAST FIVE FRAMES OF THE
MISSION (1111 THRU 1115) CONTAIN FOG ASSOCIATED WITH CAMERA
SHUTDOWN. TWO MINUS DENSITY LINES PARALLEL TO THE MAJOR
AXIS OF THE FILM AND-LOCATED 0.4 INCH AND 0.6 INCH FROM
THE NON-TITLED EDGE ARE THROUGHOUT THE MISSION. BANDING IS
PRESENT IN-THE FIRST 2.0 INCHES OF SCAN IN EACH FRAME. THE
SECONDARY IMAGES ASSOCIATED WITH HIGHLY REFLECTIVE OBJECTS

ARE PRESENT THROUGHOUT THE MISSION. ERRATIC-METERING IS
PRESENT THROUGHOUT THE MISSION. APPARENTLY THE INSTRUMENT
DID NOT METER SUFFICIENT MATERIAL INTO THE~EXPOSURE AREA
CAUSING A 0.05 INCH OVERLAP OF EACH FRAME UP TO FRAME 591.
AT THIS POINT THE'FILM'CAME.OUT OF THE RAILS. THE MATERIAL
,!-.FROM THIS POINT ON IS SERIOUSLY DEGRADED BY HEAVY EMULSION
SCRATCHES, GOUGES AND CRIMP MARKS. IN ADDITION APPROXIMATELY
THE LAST EIGHT INCHES OF SCAN DISPLAYS GROSSLY SMEARED
JAGERY WITH nE REriAIi.DER OF FRAME BEING OUT-AOF-FOCUS
IN VARYING' DEGREES.
D. PHYSICAL DEGRADATIONS.:
(1) FWD CAMERA (IS): RAIL-SCRATCHES-ARE-PRESENT ALONG
BOTH EDGES OF THE FILM. THE MISSION MATERIAL CONTAINS THREE
HEAT SPLICES.
(2) AFT. CAMERA (17): RAIL SCRATCHES ARE PRESENT ALONG
BOTH EDGES OF THE FILM." THE MISSI-ON MATERIAL CONTAINS THREE
HEAT SPLICES. SCRATCHES, CREASES AND CRIMP MARKS ASSOCIATED
WITH. THE CAMERA MALFUNCTION ARE PRESENT IN FRAMES 591 THRU
1115.
E. AUXILIARY DATA: THE.FREQUENCY MARKS AND TIME WORDS WERE
NOT IMAGED ON EITHER CAMERA RECORD. THE FRAME COUNTER AND SERIAL
NUMBER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY.
F. OTHER: THE MATERIAL WAS.-TITLED BY THE PROCESSING FACILITY
SO THAT TITLED FRAME NUMBERS AND EVENTS-COUNTER NUMBERS CORRESPOND
FOR THE TWO UNITS.
4. POSITIVES:
A.. PRINTING AND PROCESSING ARE GOOD.
B. NRTSC PRINTED THE DUPES ON FIVE INCH STOCK BECAUSE THEIR
SUPPLY OF 700MM DUPE STOCK WAS EXHAUSTED.
