Approved For Release 2008/04/22 : CIA-RDP91 B00776R000100070014-9 ? 0 NIO/W 14 February 1984 Major General James Pfautz To follow up on our discussions yesterday concerning your forthcoming SID conference. --I would like to offer up to present at least highlights of'what we are doing in the wonderful world of warning. Specific initiatives which may impact on some, if not all, of the commands include: our development of.the National Warning Training Course; the work with DIA, NSA, and CIA on indicators methodology and its potential for WWIMS; our efforts to get a number of third parties focusing on the indicators problem; our video-tape program; and the role of the National Intelligence Council in general. --The second area that I think would be appropriate for the SIO's to discuss might better be brought u.p by you, but will 'be prepared if you so choose. Specifically, the issue of "national" level support and the need for the SIO's to be vocal and unwavering in their demands for support. The second half of that problem is the suggestion that, where appropriate, SIO's work as closely as possible with their CIA (and NSA).colleagues whether DI or DO representatives. NIO/W terms could be urged. (Incidentally, CIA is teaching a mid-level career course for the first time which deals with military analysis. It includes significant sections on the military lexicon and culture. Not a bad start.). We'll be happy to play anyway you wish, but I think the issues are worth addressing.
