B. OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. The DDP intensive German testing was completed
1 October; 63 individuals were tested. Statistical
resumes of the French and German tests will be made
upon receipt of the machine runs from TRO/DDP. The
machine runs will have been marked to indicate personnel
unavailable for. testing at this time and the. reasons.
2. Testing of EOD's immediately upon their
entrance on duty has been initiated. Although the
anticipated average volume will be 4-5 per week,
20 tests for 16 individuals were scheduled the first
week of the program, and 13 tests for 10 individuals
the second week.
3. A class in Spoken Thai is to be started next
week for 1 DDP student. This class will be conducted
25X1A at
25X1A 4. will attend the annual meeting of
the African Studies Association to be held in Phila-
delphia 28-30 October. There will be several papers
read dealing with African languages, and it will also
afford him.an opportunity to follow up on many of the
contacts he made with Africanists this summer at
Michigan State University, and in the past. Many
of these contacts have led to the Agency being able
to obtain valuable teaching materials.

5. At the invitation of Defense Language Institute,
attended a briefing for DLI given by Army Security
Agency. Included in the briefing was an interesting
demonstration of new techniques for training transcribers
of foreign language materials.
6. At the invitation of FSI,
attended a demonstration at FSI made by Kenneth Pike,
a well-known linguist, on the subject of field methods
in linguistics.
