NEMJRANDUM FOR: Chief, Finance Division
for the month of December 1956
1. The salary/for the above named agent, in the amount of
$475.00, was received in my office on 11 January 1957. On 15
January I went to make payment to the agent of the sum of $475.00
pluss $12.33 representing funds due the agent on account of a re-
imbursement voucher. Because of the snowstorm that day, the agent'
was unable to meet me and I retained the money in my possession
over night. The following day I delivered the money to one of the
girls in my office with instructions to purchase a certified check
and mail it to the agent's bank account. The girl re-counted the
money, placed it in a new envelope and filled out a deposit envelope
in the true name of the agent for deposit to his bank account. The
money plus an addition $.25 to cover the cost of the certified check,
together with the deposit envelope, was placed in the girl's safe
overnight underneath her calendar. The following day, on 17 January
1957, when the girl remembered to go to the bank to purchase the
the check, the money could not be found.
2. The above matter was immediately reported to Security who
are now proceeding with an investigation.
