SUBJECT: Priority List for National Intelligence Surveys
REFERENCE: Memorandum from Secretary, The Joint Chiefs
of Staff, SM-472-55 of 20 June 055
1. It is requested that Enclosure to reference memorandum
be re-examined at the earliest practicable date with the view to
revising the Priority List of NIS Areas to reflect current requirements
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This revised Priority List will serve as
the basis for planning NIS production and maintenance schedules for
the next three years.
2. 1 have been advised by the Chairman, NIS Committee, that
the members from State and Defense Agencies recommend the assign-
ment of Priority Group II to all NIS Areas in Africa in order to step up
the collection and production of basic intelligence on an area of increasing
important e.
3. For your information there is enclosed the NIS Production
Status Report showing percentage completion of NIS by areas as of
30 June 195?.
