1. The following statements refer to the questions
raised in paragraph 2 of your memorandum, sane subject, dated 10 March
1918:
a. one of the funds recommended for geographic
name research and printing costs will be chargeable to
fiscal year 1948 funds.
b. The estimate for geographic name research does
not include any portion of the amount previously authorized
for fiscal year 1918 for this purpose.
c. It is anticipated that the additional estimated
total cost of x:600,000 annually will be a continuing
requirement for a )eriod of years.
d. The estimate for printing costs is exclusive of
all printing requirements other than those for the !IS
Program. The entire amount of $273,000 can be applied
to the 0"5OO,00O annual estimate for the fiscal year 1949.
e. It is probable that other agencies will request
financial assistance from CIA in addition to this recommended
program. What those demands will be or to what extent CIA
supports them are matters which should properly be considered
on the IAC level.
