SUBJECT: Draft of NBS Instructions on Details and Areas of Application
of the ASCII Code
As you will recall, President Johnson,, in his memorandum of larch 11, 1968,
approving the ASCII code as a Federal ADP standard, assigned to the
National Bureau of Standards the responsibility for providing Federal
departments and agencies with details andareas of application of the code.
The attached draft titled "Application of Federal ADP Code and Media
Standards" was prepared. by the ad hoc Policy Group on Transition to Federal
ADP Standards as a recom.r."unded NBS release on this subject. Your comments
on the. draft will be greatly appreciated.
Please send them to me by October 1, 1968. I assure you that all comments
received will be carefully considered.
