MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, Support Services Staff, DDS
SUBJECT : Office Information Processing Plans and Requirements
REFERENCE : Your Memorandum dated 22 January 1969, same subject
1. As requested in the reference, the following report excludes the ADP
equipment used in communications systems (MAX, ACT,, etc.,). Consequently, the
SIPS project is the sole remaining ADP program item which will have a substan-
tial impact on the Office of Communications workload. It is understood that
the implementation of SIPS (first phase) has been postponed from FY-1969 to
FY-1970 or FY-1971, and that the subsequent phases, originally planned for
FY-1970 to FY-1974, are consequently rescheduled for FY-1971 to FY-1975.
2. Attached you will find an extract from the OC FY-1971 to FY-1975 pro-
gram submission, which indicates the resources required to provide communica-
tions support to the SIPS program. The SIPS communications support is phased
to correspond to the current plans for SIPS terminals and each phase can be
advanced or delayed to parallel the fiscal years in which terminals are acti-
vated and the necessary resources are made available. 25X1A
3. With respect to the service which this office expects to obtain from
ADP, including SIPS, it is understood tha of your Staff is
currently screening OC's current and projected requirements to determine if
these requirements are applicable for SIPS processing. A listing and a descrip-
tion of these requirements have been given tol to facilitate his
work. It is understood that a refinement of our requirements is now in process
and that the resultant product will be available to your office at all stages
of preparation. If you have further questions on OC requirements, or if this
office can be of further assistance in this matter, please feel free to request
additional information or assistance.
4. The current OC (ADP Unit 0402) ADP system inventory (other than MAX)
includes:
SYSTEM NO. CPU
02 CDC 8090
05 DEC PDP-8
99 IBM PCAM

These on-going systems will continue to be utilized at approximately the same
level as in the past.
5. Not reported in the ADP Unit 0+02 inventory are the following special
ADP systems:
SYSTEM TITLE
ADP EQUIPMENT
6. The OC Special Programs Support Center has a requirement for either a
small computer or for access to a larger, centrally located computer. It is
understood that your office is studying the feasibility of establishing a cen-
tral computer facility II which could satisfy this requirement as well as
any others which may exist in that general location. Finally it is understood
that proposed leasing of an NCR 615 to replace system 99 (EAM) has been 25X1A
disapproved, but that your office is studying alternative approac es o meet the
workload which apparently is not being handled satisfactorily by the EAM
equipment.
