1. To date U5 statements for preference for duty in event ,>f7
25X1A mobilisation have been received from Agency eeployee reservists in
response to CIA Notice Of this number 629 elected Category 1,
35 Category 2, and 167 Category 3 with 4 individuals undecided. Office
of Personnel records indicate that there are employee reservists.
25X9 Deducting for overseas reservists who were not canvassed, it is estimated
that there are till statements to be received. A brief recapdtula-
tion by office is attached.
2. Although all offices are making strong efforts to complete
this canvass, difficulties are being encountered in reconciling the
dual status of reservists as between their obligations to the Agency
and their military obligation to their service. This is not a new
problem,* but this is the first time that the Agency has faced it
officially. Thus, the large numbers electing categories 1 and 2 eLp-
reeent mobilization reassignment cases in many instances since head-
quarters offices and divisions have limited military requirements. The
Agency can undoubtedly use all of ite Category 1 reservists but not
necessarily in their present assimmuints.
3. Office of Personnel processing after receipt of questionnaire
consists of indicating choice an the roster list and adding any other
new information obtained after reconciling any mieunderstandings wd
difference* arising 'with the individual or the operating official. A
determination most be made that there is a military billet for the
Category 1 eases where present office has none* and proper attention
must be paid to security by liaieen with the cover division. The final
step is that of Obtaining a machine record listing by category and by
service containing the name, rank, service serial number, branch, tied
MOS of the reservist.
4. 'Ail* it may be possible to submit a partial list to the
Seeeetary of Defense by the I March 1.956 target date named in the DDCI
letter of 3 December 1955, an additional 30 days would conplete the
returns and permit more individual consideration. The Department of

Defense progress in reviewing and accepting our military requirements
submitted with the 3 December letter is not mach as to make this
extension difficult to obtain from the Pentagon providing it is
agreeable to the auci.
