Approved For Ruse 2001/09/01;-):'GrP78-04072809400050002-5 SUGGESTION AWARDS COMMITTEE SPECIAL PANEL OF THE CLANDESTINE SERVICES MEETING, 27 May 1968 SUGGESTION NO. 67-77: dated 10 June 1966 1 4 ,JUN 1969 I. O. General Directorate of Science and Technology/OSA SUBJECT: Pick Proof Security Lock (Magnetized) A. Summary of Suggestion The suggester proposed a new "Pick Proof Security Lock" (Description and Diagrams Attached). All rights and title have been assigned to the suggester by the Agency Patent Board. One prototype was forwarded to Office of Security and a second retained in FI/D. B. Evaluations 1. As a result of this suggestion, FI/Division D made two working prototypes of the lock which tested and functioned very well. Certain limitations were noted which make the lock extremely difficult and expensive to manufacture from a pro- duction/cost point of view. However, it is an ingenious device and offers a unique opportunity to have a detector type of booby trapped lock, protecting a sensitive site. 2. Office of Security said that in certain situations the lock could be useful if qualified personnel were available all the time. They do not have the help to use the device if it were necessary to meet field demands. 3. According to FI, the modification is not adaptable to many commercial locks, therefore, it has to be tailored for each installation. Where such a detection device is called for, it would perform a very valuable service. It can be defeated, however, if prior knowledge of the modification exists. For this reason its Approved For Release 2001/09/01 SEMI ff 78-0 002-5 dst{ass#ficatlan c r IN Approved For Rele ae 2001/09FA ~E-RDP78-04072R00RU0050002-5 effectiveness is determined, in a large part, by the degree of clandestineness in which it is put into use and cared for. FI/D recommends a $100 award because the idea was able to be reduced to a practical device for possible future use. C. Conclusions and Recommendations of the Special Panel 1. Not in line of duty. model of this lock to augment models in TSD' Thus, operations officers enroute to overseas assignments can view this model for future consideration. 3. $100 award. The lock is an original conception and is available for use in isolated instances where requirements dictate its application. D.
