Within obligated funds and expected to remain so: Yes c. Satisfactory technical progress: Yes ??7. Project Status: Evaluation of all the electrical circuit breadboards is complete. The artwork to convert these breadboards to PC cards is being prepared. This work is approximately 85% complete. A representative exterior case was constructed and the layout of the circuit boards, tuning capacitor, and the dial assemblies was demonstrated. The mechanical design is about 95% complete and detail drawings are now being prepared. The variable capacitors have arrived and meet both mechanical and electrical specifications. The major mechanical problem remaining concerns the gear and dial assembly. The initial quoted delivery date for the finished item is unacceptable if contract delivery scheduling is to be met. A second vendor source was contacted and has promised a much shorter delivery cycle. The mechanical layout will be complete as soon as the second vendor's gear assembly drawings are received. The ferrite for the loop antennas was received and cut to the required shape. The ratio meters, used for,the automatic readout also have arrived and a mounting arrangement was evolved to permit lighting of the meter face. Present scheduling calls for assembly and bench testing of the DF-1+'s during July. Actual field testing is projected for approxi- mately the second week of August. This appears to be a realistic schedule and---if it holds-will permit the equipment to be delivered ahead of schedule. However, mobile operation might involve concealment of the DF-4 in a luggage rack of a vehicle for example. This is fine except that the vertical sense antenna cannot be remoted and would protrude approximately 40 inches. This may limit the operational usefulness of the device. 25X1A9a Distribution: R&D Subject File OL/PD/PCB/CAS R&D Lab OC-0S E SB Monthly (3) EP Chrono nC-SPS 25X1 A9aDC-E/R&D-EP/ /bjp (27 June 1966) Approved For Release 2
