This document consists of Approved For Release 2000/05/23 : CW8-02771 R0004003100&.5page, number ..I of 7 copies, Series A DEPARTMENT OF STATE Division of Biographic Information HAIMMAD (HAr'MAD) , Mabmud Muharram EGYPT During the past year and a half (since 'Abd al-Nasir proclaimed the nationalization of the Suez Canal Company) Ambassador Hamad has worked actively to explain and to gain support for Egypt's position. His reported conversations with U.S. officials reveal that Hamad has strong feelings about the Arab position visa vis the Israeli. In May 1957 the Danish Minister to Paraguay is quoted as saying Hamad was about to be replaced "because his heavily pro-Soviet point of view limits his usefulness in the West." On the basis of evidence available, it is probably more accurate?to describe Hamad as pro Egyptian and as supporting his government's policy of "positive neutralism."
