At the Executive Committee Meeting this morning John Bross re- ported that after careful consideration he believed would make the best chairman of the USIB Technical Surveillance Subcommittee. The Director said that was all right with him and authorized John to approach him regarding the job. If he is available, his name will then be submitted to USIB for final approval. (I advised Howard Osborn of this.) 2. Emmett Echols reported that the Office of Computer Services has agreed to conduct at no cost a survey of the requirements for computer services or machine records in the Credit Union. I told him to proceed. . Emmett Echols came to see me about a potential flap in which Mr. . General Carter called to request that the Office of Security provide is involved. In substance, a Mr. Castwit, a journalist who was writing a book, asked for some material on CIA. gave him a copy of our recruit ochure and also a copy of Mr. es book, The Craft of Intelligence. Mr. Castwit's book is now in final draft, and he sent the section of it which deals with the Intelligence Community and CIA to_for his personal comments. (I referred this matter to Paul Chretien and requested that he confer with Emmett and decide what we should do. Offhand, it seems to me that we should draft a letter to Castwit for- signature saying that he has no authority to comment on this book and that, if Castwit wishes to submit it for clearance or inaccuracies, he should send it to CIA Headquarters in Washington, D.
