all the time and it doesn't look too bad. It is very accessible to the George
Washington Parkway and also quite convenient to the Pentagon, White House,
etc. One great advantage would be that one of these three buildings, which
contains approximately 80, 000 square feet, will be available within the next
thirty to sixty days. While I haven't bought the idea, I asked H. S. to get the
Office of Security to look at it right away and to talk with me again prior to
my departure on leave. As I understand it, our people in the Matomic Build-
ing would be the first to move into this newly constructed building, and GSA
and the Bureau of Public Roads would be willing to pay for this move and to
pick up the tab for the rent in order to make the first move toward consoli-
dation and also to accommodate BPR. Presumably, this move would also
satisfy Rex Whitton who would grant immediate approval for the use of more
BPR property on which to construct a new parking lot.

1. Today's crisis involved the water outage caused by a break in the
12-inch main between our reserve water tank and the Headquarters building.
Supervisors were urged to grant annual leave or compensatory time to those 14
employees who could be spared. This situation pointed up the necessity for
having a parallel water line, and I asked to proceed with this. 25X1A9a
2. reported that the Public Buildings Service (Region 3) 25X1 A9a
is interested in our reaction to a proposal which would move our people who
are now in the temporary buildings, the and the Matomic 25X1 A6a
Building into about three buildings now under construction in the Rosslyn
area. I looked at this area today, and while I thought that it was not as desir-
able as being in one building downtown, either in the 25X1A6a
25X1 A9a 3. I talked to at the about the possibility
of returning to Washington to become Chief of the Supply Division. He antici-
pated that it would take him until about 15 September to clean up his work
and turn it over to someone else. He would prefer to move now rather than
to wait until the first of the year, however. I think that this is what we should
