Matt. r Mr. Dulles:
January 30, 1961
I thought you might be interested in my conversation of today
with Mikhail R. Sagatelyan, the TASS correspondent. We spent
15 minutes tbgether in my office at his request.
1?: Lusty Mr. Sagatelyir, warited to host a luncheon in ]fly honor along
the c,rreaponcl t-1tn for PFZAVUA and IZVESTIA. 1 agreed to
join them for luncheon on Thursday, February 9th.
?'urther, he wanted to tell me that during the two months before the
advent of President Kennedy, he had personally suppressed stories
Wh1c t he thought would be harmful to American-USSR relations.
lie slfid he had personally undertaken this because he felt keenly
about the betterment of these relations. He also volunteered to
''cobpetaW" with this office in an effort to bring about the better-
rrYettt of these relations.
!-tis "gue6t" is that the re is a 50-50 chance that Khrushchev would
col-he to rite United Nations. He said it was merely a guess since
Anil a88adt r lvleiishikov did not tell "them" these things,
He theh said that there were several minor irritations which the
,90,, srt preen,-x were experiencing here but thought they could be re-
stilvhd. P r example: Yury Farsukov (IZVESTLA correspondent)
