a) Referred to a cable from containing 25X1A6a
a report on the economic situation Ear and after some
discussion it was agreed that a sanitized round-up on this matter
would be prepared by DD/I in coordination with DD/P for dis-
cussion at the luncheon tomorrow the Director is giving for
representatives of the Wail Street Journal.
25X1A b) Noted while in New York yesterday he had talked with
F_ I regarding the Soviet
resolution to the U.N. calling for an investigation of the
Russian charge that the U.S. had intervened in internal Hungarian
affairs and incited the people to riot. The Director said the
U.S. reply, that we would welcome such an investigation provided
a U.N. team was allowed to go into Hungary to make it, was in his
opinion an excellent opportunity to turn the tables an the soviets.
He commented probably there was nothing much that coWd be done
about this until after Christmas. ACTION: Df/p
c) Referred to a report that Moscow University students
are condemning the Soviet regime and asked whether we should not
stet out something ou this. Mr. Sheldon commented that this
affair had been reported in the CIR and he believed this is the
best way to bring it and subsequent reports to the attention of

on 14 December and had he known before hand the purpose of the
visit he would have had Ii and some of his people present.

Amory:
Noted that he was attending a meeting tomorrow with
the CF HP (Council on Foreign Economic Policy) to consider
whether the U.S. should sell certain commodities to satellite
countries at world prices, commenting that these countries do
have dollars. The Director expressed the opinion that the
U.S. should do this provided we could "pick our satellites.
