Approved For Release 2008/12/15: CIA-RDP80BO1676R000800050017-3 25 YEAR RE-REVIEW 5 January 19 61 The Assistant to the President The White House Washington 25. D. C. ajor General Wilton B. Persons Dear Jerry: UO/P As you know, it has been customary for the past several years for the President to hold a White House luncheon on behalf of the Crusade for Freedom, the fund raising organization for Radio Free Europe. Usually 30 to 40 distinguished leaders of Aneriean business and industry attend, together with the Secretary of State, myself, and the Crusade chairman. The President has always been good enough to say a few words in support of Radio Free Europe at the luncheon, and his *odor endorsement has invariably been instrumental in kicking off the Crusade's yearly fund-raising drive to a good start. I am hopeful that it will be possible for the President to hold a meeting the Crusade between now and January BO. Because of the President's y schedule. I believe a short, informal gathering of say, 25 people would be more in order this year. A suggested guest list is attached. I have cleared this with the Department of State who concur in the idea. I cannot emphasize too strongly bow much the President's continued support of Radio Free Europe has meant to its American sponsors and to its listeners in Eastern Europe. d you be good enough to lot we know whether this will be possible ear, and if so, When. incerely. ri Lu Allen W.
