I would like to take this occasion to tell you
and your colleagues on the President's Board of Consultants
on Foreign Intelligence Activities what a valuable contri-
bution I believe you have made to the intelligence community
of the United States Government. Although there have been
tines when we have disagreed with some of your views and
recommendations, we have always been sure of the con-
structive and helpful attitude that lay behind these recom-
mendations. Further, the persistence of the Board in pressing
certain matters of critical importance to the national security
have been of considerable assistance to me as Director of
Central Intelligence and I have been grateful for your help.
I recognize that a body such as yours often wonders
about the impact of its work and I want to assure you that I
believe you have made a considerable contribution to the nation.
Those of us in the intelligence community are particularly
appreciative that a group of such distinguished and busy citizens
have given so freely of their time to assist us.
I also want to make mention of the fine work of your
