Approved For Release 2001/08/30 : CIA-RDP74-00390R000200040006-6 9 September 1971 This is in response to your question about "requests for information" we have processed. Technically we have had no requests for information or for access to Agency records. I believe we can make a negative response to Mr. The Records Administration Branch, SSS has received requests for permission to declassify some OSS records being held by the U. S. Army, DIA, the FDR Library, and the University of Michigan Library, and some Agency documents in the JFK Presidential Library. In 18 instances the Agency had no objections to declassification or release of the records and in 7 instances the Agency recommended against declassifying the records. Agency coordination was with the Agency Declassification Officer in DDI or the SSU in DDP, and they with Security and CI Staff. Details of the reuponses are: a. The University of Michigan Librarian was notified that the document in question was declassified and could be released to researchers. b. The JFK Librarian was notified the Agency had no objection to release part of the material but that another part consisting of 46 documents should remain classified and be filed in their classified collection. c. The FDR Librarian was informed that the ten document boxes of General Donovan`sllettere to President Roosevelt being held in the FDR Library could not be bulk declassified at this time. d. The DIA Support Officer was notified that the Agency had no continuing interest in the records submitted and their disposition rested with DIA. e. Of the 20 requests from the U. S. Army, the Adjutant General's Office was notified that the: Agency had no objections to declassification and release in 15 instances and recommends against declassification in 5 instances. Distribution of Agency reports is accomplished by the Center in accordance with directions from the Offices responsible for the reports. Similarly, Records Center references to retired records are granted only as authorized by the Offices that retired the records. Finally, I believe additional components in the Agency, other STA INTL than the OGC may have contributions for this Congressional quest onna re, such as: Strategic Services Unit, DAP Central Reference Service, DDI Historical Intelligence Collection, DDI I also wonder if Offices like Training, Finance, Logistics and Medical Services might have had requests for information.
