Thank you for the opportunity to offer suggestions for improving the specifi-
cations covering the movable shelving for this project. In general, we feel
this is-an excellent specification and we could bid as now constituted. We
believe there are several items which with slight alterations to the specifi-
cations might. result in savings of money as well as make for a better and
quicker installation. Following are several suggestions we offer for your
evaluation.
Section 2A-Removal and Relocation Work, par. 1.4 Explosives
It is general practice to fasten rails to the concrete with Ramset. This para-
graph would cause our installers to go to a more expensive type of fastening.
Section 3A-Concrete
For the use to be made of this concrete the specification would seem to be
very exacting.
Section 14A-Movable Shelving, par. 9 Motorization
We would suggest adding a concluding sentence as follows: "Ladders and record
trucks will be used in range aisles. The width of gaps in the floor shall not
be so wide to prevent the easy rolling of casters over the necessary floor
oparings..

Section 16A-Electrical Work, par. 1
To date we have not determined whether it is feasible to expect 50 foot
candles at the bQttom shelf level since the lights will be-over 10 feet
above the floor. We are aware of fluorescent fixtures which will provide
50 foot candles 8 feet above the floor.
