MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Motorized Shelving at Army Map Service

I contacted Mr. Don Abbott, Army Topographic
command to inquire if he had anything significant
that he could tell me about the performance of
their installation of 0 motorized shelving.
As their installation has been operative for
over 4 months I felt that he would have had time
to evaluate its performance.
Mr. Abbott informed me that they have had
their engineers to change the gear ratio. This gear
ratio, change will result in an increase of time
required to open an aisle. It is expected that
the time will increase from 9 seconds, presently
the case, to 14 seconds.

if he thinks he has any information of interest

I also asked Mr. Abbott about the Estey
installation that is scheduled to go into Army
Map. He told me that the installation has not
started yet. He said it will be almost identical
in size with the installation. When completed
this should prove e Army Map with an excellent
opportunity to compare the two systems.
