Gen. Walter Bedell Smith, Director of the Cen- tral Intelligence Agency. Mr. Davison will assume his new du- ties on July 15. Since Sept. 12, 1950, Mr. Davison has been serving as Assistant: Director of Civil Defense ;for the town of Oyster Bay. His resigna- tion was announced in Nassau County today. Mr. Davison is 55 years old and son of the late Henry P. Davison, (partner ih tie firm of J. P. Mort gan & Co. During- World War I his mothef set aside her Long Island estate for the training of her son and twelve friends and class-mates from Yale who were eager to fly, With this training behind him, Mr. Davison entered the United States Naval Air Service in World War I. He rose in the Air Forces until he became a brigadier gen feral on the air staff and Assistant Chief of Staff to General Henry H. Arnold in charge of personnel. In civil life, Mr. Davison began his career as a member of the bar =n 1922. He was a Republican: mmber of the New York ,State 4ssembly from Nassau County j rom 1922 to 1926. From 1924 to 1932 he was Assistant Secretary of War in the Coolidge and Hoover Administrations. In 1933, Mr. Davison became president of the A.meric~n'Museum of Natural History. Last April he l, announced ;he would r9tire from this post next October after eight- een years in office..
