Castle, 52, a senior Central Intelligence Agency officer, died Monday at Doctors Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Castle, who lived at 6900 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, had been with the CIA since 1949. Born in the District, he was the son, of Navy Commander and Mrs. Guy W. S. Castle. His father was a holder of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Mr. Castle attended schools in Washington and was graduated from St. Alban's School in 1932. He then attended the Wharton School of Finance of the Univer- sity of Pennsylvania. ' ' In 1934, he was appointed an assistant to Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles. Four years later he joined the Nation- al Youth Administration, serv- ing as an area administrator in Southern Maryland. Mr. Castle was commissioned in the Navy in 1942 and served in the Office of Naval Intelli- gence. He later served in India and Ceylon, before being re- leased from the Navy as a lieutenant commander in 1946. Mr. Castle was graduated from George Washington Uni- j versity in 1949 and in 1955 from the Naval War: College at Newport, R.I. :Mr. Castle was a member of the Virginia State Society of the I 1 Cincinnati and Psi Upsilon fraternity. ' He leaves his wife, Margue- rite, a daughter, Marguerite, two sons, John B. Jr. and Car- ter H., and his mother, Mrs. Harriet B. Castle, all of the home. Friends may call at Gawler's Funeral Home, Wisconsin, Avenue and Harrison Streets NW.
