I expressed my appreciation. He then asked if I could give him some help in connection with the daughter of a very close friend who is travelling in the Middle East and Far East areas. He needed some advice concerning the probable conditions and safety. I indicated we would provide this as soon as possible. 7. Talked with Lt. Col. Edward C. Peter, II, Office of the Secretary of the Army, L&L, who will be escorting Senator Stuart Symington on a trip to Europe in the near future. We discussed arrangements whereby Symington had wished him to sit in on substantive briefings but, of course, the Agency would not wish him to sit in on briefings involving Agency activities. Peter said he understood this and so did Senator Symington, citing the experiences on his trip last fall. 8. Received a call from Martin Convisser, International Division, BOB, who advised that the Department of Defense comments on the Agency legislative package had been received. Later in the day, he provided a copy for our review. 9. Discussed the status of the testimony of DS-195 with Phil Kelleher, Counsel, House Armed Services Committee and learned that the testimony will be published on or about 23 March following a floor statement by Chairman Rivers. Obtained the Committee jacket number from Edith Johnson of the Committee staff and entered an order for 2000 copies of the printed testimony. Kelleher believes there will be no difficulty in obtaining the Chairman's signature on a cover letter to be used by the Agency with its mailing list. 10. Talked with Harold Thomerson, in the office of Representative Ralph J. Scott, concerning the application for employment 25X1A of I and said we would be back in touch with him as soon as we were able to draw all the facts together. Thomerson thanked us for the attention being given the case. The Office of Security was requested to . verify and illuminate the references to an employment contact in 1955 with the Agency.
