Honorable Clarence Gannon
Chairman
Committee an f pproprtation$
House of Representatives
Washington AS. D. G.
t. ur discussions of last week were most interesting
and helpful to me. In view of you great interest in the
historical aspects of intelligence, I am enclosi a book by
Colonel John. 3akeless entitled TURNCOATS. TRAITORS
.ND HLROL$. Dakeless is a 04 reserve officer and an
accomplished scholar. The book is a comprehensive
volume the subject of British and American intelligence
in America during the Revolution. In particular it to quite
good in showing Washington's personal interest in. and
direction of, intelligence activities.
I hope you will find this interesting reading.
Sin+csrely.

MEMORANDUM FOR: THE DIRECTOR
You will recall there was discussion of
George Washington's activities at the recent
meeting with Mr. Cannon's Subcommittee.
Walter Pforzheimer advises there are obstacles
to photographing our present exhibit., However,
he suggests the book by Bakeless, TURNCOATS,
TRAITORS AND HEROES, which, while
apparently disappointing to some, is nevertheless
the most comprehensive single volume on the
subject.
