Approved For, elease 2002/06/14: CIA-RDP71 B001 8SA0001 00020100-0 27 October 1966 MEMORANDUM FOR: Acting Deputy Director for Science and Technology 1. This article appeared a couple of days ago in the Wall Street Journal. I drew it to Chuck Briggs' attention because I felt Adm. Taylor might ask some questions about it. 2. So much about computers is sluffed off as "not here yet", but the evidence presented in this article of use by General Motors is designing the Camaro, and in particular the interest at Lockheed- Marietta shows that some real applications have been made. Lockheed-Marietta, incidentally, got the first IBM time-sharing going. and as indicated in this article, have been doing computer sketch pad work since last November. IPRD won't get a BR-90 display device until February, and at that time they will start working on man-machine interfaces. If we are really serious, we might do well to get our hands on a guy at Lockheed-Marietta who has lived through this trauma to provide a little guidance. 25X1A Attachment: As stated.
