Reds Launch New Offensive
Allen W. Dulles, head of the central int lligence age#1cy,
11 as issued a timely warning on Russia is mak-
i ug in infiltrating European governments. Dulles cells this
o renewal of the former effort to gain as much ct ntrol as
possible over parliamentary processes. It is new in~that the
drive has been openly announced by Russian leaders. The
i'irst concentration of this program is noted- in France, Italy
and Indonesia.
Dulles states that the Communists have a well defined
,+rograin to infiltrate free legislative .$ystems. Once in con-
trot, they would destroy all traces Hof that 'system. Dulles
realizes that this is such a big uiidertg *ing tlt t many people,
will charge it off as impossible. But, he points to France
and Italy as examples of the prograSs of Communism in
those governments, What started as an annoying in#ilt.ra.

An analysis of more than 500,000 words spoken by Soviet;
leaders at the twentieth party congress in Moscow last Feb
ruary, has convinced Dulles that the Red chiefs have notified
the world exactly of the course of their drive. He, cites ni
address by party boss. Nikita Khrushchev. He said , e hope+l
that people who usually are skeptical of Russian ability i.o
enter other countries, will awaken from their slumber to at
least learn the facts.
Dulles feels that the successes of the Russian campaign in
Asia, has been most successful because the people there do
n.ot understand the motives of the Reds. As Dulles sees
this new drive, it is to largely take the place of military force in places where Allied might has curbed tha# rn+ rls+_ed.
It would appear that we again are i n for a c o i l
Communist campaign, similar to that started prior to World
wear II_. The Dulles. warning is timely. Americans will watch
l?velopments. with, keen interest.
