Approved For Ree 2002/01/25 : CI&F00341R0Q00080028-5 DIARY NOTES ADD/S 13 September 1966 1. I asked John Bross to call Frank Pace to invite him to speak to the 28 October Mid-Career Course. John tried today but Pace will not be in his office until tomorrow. He will let me know as soon as he has made contact. 25X1A 2. The DD/S&T and all of his principal officers are oin to be Wednesday, Thursday, a this week, leaving in reporting th g in e arge. Dr.25X1A doesn't agree with t e recommendation that we sit tight. The Director instructed him to pass the paper to Howard Osborn. I alerted Howard that this was coming to him. 3. Col. White called to say the press response paper that we worked on had only been changed very slightly by Mr. Helms and that tomorrow is to be the day of truth. Mr. Helms, in discussing this at the Morning Meeting, asked everyone to cooperate and let him know if they heard any employee reaction or reaction on the outside. He wanted everyone to be fully aware that this mply a termination of contract in accordance of that contract in discussing th affair with persons on25X1A the outside. We were again enjoined not to let this leak e ore the fact. 4. Mr. Helms spoke about giving information to an one concerning an American citizen. He dealt with this at some length and apparently was thinking of the American priest who had defected in Moscow. In any case, I repeated his caution at the DD/S Staff Meeting. 5. Mr. Helms had forgotten that he had invited the Vice President to the 6th Annual Awards Ceremony and made some irrevocable luncheon arrangements. Since we think that the Vice President would be much relieved not to have to c d Emmett Echols worked out a method of cancelling this throug 25X1A I do not know exactly how they are handling it. 6. Larry Houston and I met on th 25X1A business. Larry has drafted another pape we are to see Col Col. White first for guidance hould take the action on this.
