Approved For Release 2002/01/25 :00341R000100080017-7 Nwe DIARY NOTES DD/S 21 September 1966 Radio Receptor Contract: I called a meeting of all interested parties on the radio receptor contract which has been characterized by serious overruns and the product of the contract is still some distance off. It was agreed that we would close out this contract and accept our loss as the production is yet to be really developed and the costs will be excessive. The Office of Security has found an existing piece of equipment which, with modifications, will serve its counter- measures requirement at a very reasonable cost. I asked Logistics to immed- iately pull up a memorandum citing the circumstances of this situation with a recommednation to close out the contract. Colonel White must give final approval of this action. There are many things wrong with the history of this contract, many of which were beyond the competence of the Agency to control. I think we in the Agency could have done a much better monitoring job, but even with that feature being properly exercised this contract seemed doomed to encounter trouble.
