7at. State member reported concurrence of his agency in the
draft, although he suggested moor changes to clarify the text. State had
not completed its review of the controlled areas list. The other members
reported that their agencies were reviewing the draft and could not report
their views before the next meeting.
The Committee examined the question of the effect on NIS
production of Alaskan statehood (refer to Item 3 NCM 272), and reached
the following decision:
a. Production of NJS on Alaska will cease when the Territory
becomes a state.
b. NIS sections presently in production will be completed
and published, including Section 31 (Railway)0

in line with existing exchange policy.
d,. Published2 iW dill continue in effect until cancelled
by obsolescence. will be permitted to retain such
material and will be notified when it becomes obsolete.
The State member reported that Section 53M on NIS 39A
(Communist China), inactive since 9 July 1958 because of delay in receipt
of field comments, will be ready by 2 September 1958. He also reported
that Section 60 on NIS 89 (Chile), inactive since 8 July 1958 because of
absence of analyst, will be ready by 26 August 1958.
The Committee approved Army?s recommendation, submitted
in memorandum of 12 August 1958, that Section 81 on NIS 55 (Ethiopia)
be withdrawn from OBI review and rescheduled as a consolidated
Chapter VIII at a later date when the Ethiopian Army situation stabilizes.
6, Other Matters

OCR report on "Exploitation of Certain on Africa, India,
and some Areas of the Middle East", dated 25 July 19580 He noted that a

complete ac ;eta ion list of materials is available in the Cy IA Library
A.nd inquiries respecting it should be directed there,
b. The Chairman informed the members that the installation
and town-city files on Western Hemisphere countries' v.-it being retired
from the Industrial Register, OCR, to the Records Centcra Subject
files can be drawn at any time upon 24 hours" notice but, in no instance,
will there be found poet-1956 information.
c. Copies of the NIS Annual Report for FY i958 were
released to all members.
7,, The next meeting will be held at 1000 hours ci Tuesday,
Z6 August 1958.
