Approved Fo Iease 2003/05/05 : CIA-RDP80B01 0006001 15 December 1 IiORa1'J`! FOR: Director of Cerr`ral Intelligence 1. I l ached today with Pentagon reporters Orr Kelly, EVEi17f G STAR, and Charles W. Corddry, Jr., BALTIMORE SUN (recently of UPI). Both are friendly toward us and potentially useful. 2. Orr, who invited me, said his "ulterior motive" was two-fold: (a) To ask if he, Charles, and possibly one or two of their associates might meet you for an off-the-record, get-acquainted gab session, maybe an informal lunch. 3. 'Their plea: Since nnour_ce_^zen' of McNamara?s resignation, their usual Pentagon sources are so skittish that newm en feel useless and unwanted. CouLdntt we at least help them get in focus? 4. I said I would relay their irritation to you; you were busy as hell, but did like newsmen and enjoyed visiting them and, I felt, if you could find a -time you would do so., As to background briefings in my office, I said as soon as they let me know who all might attend., I would see if I could arrange the 1 r ef.-n they wanted? I would like to favor these two, if you agree. Joseph C. Goodwin Assistant to the Director STAT
