S-E-C-R-E-T COUNTRY East Germany SUBJECT Weekly Order of Battle Summary DATE OF INFO. PLACE ACQUIRED DATE ACQUIRED SOURCE EVALUATIONS ARE DEFINITIVE. APPRAISAL Of CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. The following is a summary of information on Soviet and East German military activities received prior to 28 November 1955: 1. Soviet Activities Troops remained mostly within garrison areas, where recruitl,training continued. Under the annual troop rotation program, more thin 100,000 men had been involved in each direction. Between 14 and 23 November the special equipment was removed from four shuttle trains and the trains subsequently broken up. On 6 November, according to unconfirmed information, a 240-mm. mortar was seen with the 65th Mortar Brigade in Rathenow. 2. Soviet Movements a. During the period 16 - 30 November more than 2,000 empty two-axle flatcars allegedly are to be moved from East Germany to Brest Litovsk where they are to be loaded with motor vehicles for shipment to East Germany. It is not known whether they will be consigned to the Soviet Army or the KVP. During the period 17 - 19 November eight trains, each with 50 empty flats, reportedly left East Germany under this program. On 21 23 November two more trains were turned over to Soviet authorities daily, Thus some 700 empties had possibly already been; sent or earmarked by 23 November. No return movement has been reported so far. b. On 9 November a'shipment including 12 rocket launchers moved from Brest Litovsk to Frankfurt/Oder. c. On 11 November an AAA unit moved from Frankfurt/Oder to Wustrow for firing practice. d.
