Building 2: Sections 2ax and 2d housed the atmy signal unit of Lieutenant Colonel Zevakin (fnu) who is the chief in the barracks installation. Section 2b housed an army signal unit of about 80 men, including Captain BorovIk (fnu). This unit)which allegedly includes = air force personnel)is said to be directly subordinated to the air force headquarters in Werder. Section 2c housed Air Force Unit Malayev which is also directly subordinated to the Werder headquarters. Building 3 housed Soviet dependents. Building 4. The occupation of section 4a is not known. Section 4b housed Air Force Unit Galkin. for the barracks installation, a tr.: and another transformer station for Building 5 housed the large kitchen and cent ating plant Building 6. called "Hotel", housed ansient officers. Building 7. The occupation of this building was not known. Building 8. housed the switch board and quarters for Air Force Unit Galkin. The following observations were made at Wildpark West Kaserne between 15 and 30 April 1955: - Approved For Release 2008/08/19: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA007900630016-2 Building 9 housed billets and offices of the headquarters of Air Force Unit Strativnov. - Building 10, housed Soviet dependents. Building 11 Section lla housed billets of Air Force Unit Strativnov. Section llb housed billets of an army construction unit. Supply officer of this unit was Major Gorodobyedov (fnu) and, prior to 15 April 1955, Major Osetrov (fnu). The IIVI of the unit wore black- bordered black epaulets with an insignia similar to the one worn by road construction personnel. Road rollers, cranes and other osite to-,the billets. The motor pool tside of the barracks installation in the former duck ea A. The personnel strength of the ima e a 150 to 200 meat Section llc housed a small gymnasium. Section lld housed a motion picture theater.- Section lle housed billets of Air Force Unit Strativnov. Section llf housed the school of Air Force Unit Galkin. Building 12 housed a swimming pool and a large heating plant. Building 13 housed Soviet dependents. Building 14 housed an officer kitchen and officers' club. Building 15 was the guardhouse. Building 16 housed Soviet dependents. Area A. motor vehicle parking site of Unit Gorodobyedov. Area B, Kleiner Entenfaengerberg, with previously reported radio installation. Additional sections of the mountain are being cleared. It appears that another radio installation is located on the mountain. Area C.__ underground command bunker, separated from the barracks installation by a high and dense board fence. This bunker, which has not yet been entered, is apparently not occupied but ready for occupation. 2. The following details were known about the units billeted in 1ildpark West Kaserne: It could not be determined where the units, except for Unit Gorodobyedov, parked their motor vehicles. It is possible that there were garages which have not yet been observed. It appears that Unit Galkin is independent, while Unit Golubov is subordinated to Unit Strativnov. The individual units approximately had the following strength: Unit Zevakin 400 to 500 men Unit Malayev 400 to 500 men Unit Borovik 60 to 100 men Unit Gorodobyedov 200 men Unit Strativnov 500 to 700 men including Unit Galkin and Unit Golubov Comment?c The following units are believed to be quartered in Wildpark 'Nest Kaserne: a. An air force construction battalion under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Strativnov. Two construction units with Captain Golubov and Major Galkin as chiefs were probably assigned to the battalion. Groups of the two units are detached to various airfields, in particular for grading work. b. An army signal unit under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Zevakin. Elements of this unit were transferred to the Hindenburg Kaserne in Leipzig, in April 1954. It is unknown if the elements were two independent units or if they were connected with one another. c. A signal unit under the command of Captain Borovik. Th_.s M unit probably furnished the personnel for the radar station on Kleinen Entenfaenerberg. d. Air Force Unit Malayev possibly including personnel of the headquarters of the Twenty-Fourth Air Army in `Herder. The missions of this unit are not known. e. An army construction unit with the assignedsuprplg officer Major Gorodobyedov. For layout sketch of Wildpark-West Kaserne, see Annex.
