1. The reestablishment of relations between Bulgaria and Yugoslavia was not
looked upon with favor by the Bulgarian people. Traditionally enemies of
the Yugoslavs., the Bulgarians are convinced that the return to normalcy
in the diplomatic relations of the two countries was brought about by
Moscow for purposes which as yet are not evident.
2. Foreign radio broadcasts are listened to by an ever increasing number of
Bulgarian peoples, but with indifference., The promises of help., of an
imminent "liberation", and so forth, are no longer believed anywhere since
after so many years of promises which have brought about no concrete results.,
any remaining hope has vanished.
Broadcasts are now listened to only because the people have the satisfaction
of doing something contrary to the wishes of the government..' tnd in order to
keep abreast of news events which the Bulgarian papers "tone down" or do not
report at all.
Among the various foreign radio broadcasts, those in which most trust. is
placed are the BBC and the Radio Diffusion Francaise, since they are more.
objective and less apt to make easy promises. Less listened to are the
broadcasts coming from the US. Radio Free Europe makes the people "laugh"
and at the same time makes `hem mad because of its habit of turning an,,
everyday occurrence into a "historical event."
As a whole, the propaganda broadcasts have become; for listeners, a simple
source of news and a means to s7ite the government.
