THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The newly established institute for technology (ohemistry)in
Halle/Saale is subordinate to HA Hoch-und Faohachulen in the
Ministry of Heavy Industry which is headed by Wilhelm Engler.
Kleinert (fnu), section chief is responsible for Halle and
Mueller (fnu) is responsible for the school for mountain engineering
in Freiberg.
2. Professor Dr Dallmann (fnu), a mathematician who had been a
professor at the teachers' training college in Potsdam and is said to
be an SED member, is acting director of the institute. At the end
of 1954, the body of instructors in Halle included five professors
and three assistant professors, namely, professor Dallmann, two
technologists, Dr Gerhard Becherer, a physician from Martin Lu*her
University in Halle and a chemist who was probably employed at the
Leuna Plant. The institute allegedly worked in close cooperation
with employees and scientists employed at Buna Plant in Sohkopau
and the Leuna Plant. The institute is to train chemists who are
either able to work as engineers or are vonversant with machinery.
3. The building of the institute is to be erected in Merseburg-Sued
in the area of the Leuna Plant. The oonstuaction of a house had
started in November 1954. The institute is to be completed in
three or four years with emphasis on chemical laboratory and a
planned capacity of 2,000 students. The institute is presently
located in a school of chemistry in Halle-Neuwerk. About 200 students
are workigg there.
4. It was learned that the Bergakademie (school of mountain engineering)
in Freiberg would be expanded into an institute of technology, and
that the professors employed at the institute for chemistry in Halle
would possibly also be employed in Freiberg.
