Following were the approximate quantities of raw material on hand at the end of
November 1954:
Coke (various) 5,000 tons
Pure copper 1,000 tons
Pitch and tar (various) 3,900 to*e
Negotiations for an order of 50,000 tons of stamping compound for China were in
progress at the--end of November.
Research and Development.
a. An attempt is being made to test all carbon products by means of spectrum
s,xalysis. Progress is being made.
b. Automatic tipping and filling devices for mixers are to be developed.
c. Attempts to improve the quality of carbon brushes produced no positive. results
and have been, discontinued.
d. The search for the causes of,a very high percentage of spoilage (5in the
case of 'electrodes) has assumed characteristics akin to ysteria. rile -spoilage is
thought to be caused by'the esfeless handling of products by workers.
