1. Since the death of Stalin a renewed spirit of nationalism has been manifest in
Czechoslovakia. The language of those opposing the regime is more daring and
open. Even those persons who, in the past, were virtually silent in their
opposition to the regime are now quite openly demonstrating their dissatisfac-
tion. The general impression is that the police have relaxed their former harsh
control over speech, press, radio, etc.
2, There are no news or rumors concerning activities of rebel groups.1
Police controls on movement are still very strict. The severity of customs
control has been somewhat relaxed.
